Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the history and countless contributions that Latinxs have made to the nation over the years. This month we also honor the cultural richness of Hispanics, who come from Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. This month is celebrated from September 15 to October 15. It is celebrated beginning on September 15th due to the fact that September 15 is the date when five Latin American countries—Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua—earned their independence from Spain in 1821. Mexico, Chile, and Belize became independent on September 16th, 18th, and 21st from Spain and the United Kingdom, respectively. This month we pay tribute to past and present latinx leaders such as Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Sonia Sotomayor, Caesar Chavez, and Mario Molina.
