All criteria must be met to be considered
- Enrolled in (or graduated from) college — Bachelor's preferred, Associate's accepted
- Unpaid, part-time position — we happily assist in securing academic internship credit
- Minimum 8 hours/week — at least 4 hours a day, two days a week, for at least one semester (year-long preferred)
- Participate in 3 prison trips (semester) or 6 trips (year-long)
- Interest in criminal justice, youth development, and/or nonprofits
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with youth, peers, and adults
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, flexible environment with strong attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Apps
- Professional and personal maturity; sound judgment and ability to set appropriate boundaries
- Comfort solving problems independently and creatively
- Valid driver's license and strong team orientation

Social Justice Program Assistant
SJPA
Assist in direct service to children and families, specifically helping with the implementation of Foreverfamily’s Family Visitation Program. Reports to the Deputy Director.
Additional Requirements
- Experience with and genuine interest in youth development; ability to set boundaries and remain transparent
- Cultural competency — experience and understanding of urban, Black youth
- Available on the 2nd Saturday of each month, 5:30 am–7:30 pm, plus at least one weekday
- Commitment to at least one semester

Key Responsibilities
- Contact caregivers and families to confirm prison visit attendance
- Transport children and caregivers to/from the center and correctional facility
- Refer parents to external resources: housing, reEntry services, and legal aid
- Stay current on trends and research related to the prison industrial complex
- Send stationery packets to children and respond to prisoner correspondence
- Update database with needs of incarcerated parents
- Assist with case management and inputting family data
- Implement evaluation tools to help measure agency impact
- Assist with grant compliance for the Family Visitation Program
- Speak publicly about programs at meetings, workshops, and conferences
Success Coach
YOUTH AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
Assist in direct service to children and families, specifically helping plan and implement the Youth Ambassadors program — focused on developing and celebrating youth voice as a method for transforming lives.
- Available on the 2nd Saturday of each month, 5:30 am–7:30 pm, plus at least one weekday
- Genuine interest in youth development; ability to set appropriate limits and remain transparent
- Cultural competency — experience and understanding of urban, Black youth
- Commitment to at least one semester

- Work with high school seniors to apply for college scholarships
- Assist Program Coordinator with planning Youth Ambassadors Program
- Facilitate activities — field trips, team-building, community service, workshops in public speaking, conflict resolution, and goal setting
- Recruit, interview, and select youth design team members
- Recruit, onboard, and supervise volunteers for youth events
- Implement evaluation tools to help measure agency impact
- Assist with grant compliance and proposal writing
- Create engaging content for the organization's website family portal
- Design and lead creative activities for youth participants
Family Advocate
CAREGIVER ADVOCACY PROGRAM
Assist in direct service to children and families, specifically helping plan and implement Foreverfamily’s Caregiver Advocacy Program — supporting the caregivers who hold families together.
- Available on the 2nd Saturday of each month, 5:30 am–7:30 pm, plus at least one weekday
- Genuine interest in entrepreneurship and community advocacy
- Cultural competency — experience and understanding of urban, Black youth
- Commitment to at least one semester

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in enrolling new families — conducting intake interviews and gathering documentation
- Conduct assessments and develop individualized service plans
- Design and organize activities and events that engage caregivers
- Maintain a comprehensive database of community resources relevant to family needs
- Conduct outreach, attend community events, and collaborate with partner organizations
- Refer families to housing assistance, food banks, and mental health services
- Create informative content for the organization's website family portal
- Develop monthly breakfast and lunch menus for the Family Visitation Program
Communications & Marketing Intern
CI — DEVELOPMENT TEAM
Assist with the development and management of all agency communications — internal and external — including social media, newsletters, media writing, and grant support. Reports to senior staff.
- Available on the 2nd Saturday of each month, 5:30 am–7:30 pm, plus at least one weekday
- Experience with promotions, social media, newsletter writing, grant writing, or editorial journalism
- Genuine interest in children and families, social justice, and nonprofit work
Communications · Marketing · Journalism · Creative Writing
Key Responsibilities
- Develop content for and manage agency social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram)
- Brainstorm campaigns and posts to drive engagement and word-of-mouth growth
- Monitor social media and cultural trends and apply insights to content strategy
- Connect with like-minded organizations and potential partners via social media
- Help maintain the website and update promotional materials
- Write the monthly agency newsletter for supporters and participants
- Write media articles highlighting programs and agency impact
- Assist with grant compliance and proposal writing
- Manage donor and volunteer information; create reports on program statistics and outreach
- Assist with volunteer recruitment and help execute major events
