The Practitioners' Institute was created to provide a safe, energized and idea rich atmosphere where those who work with children, families, and communities affected by parental incarceration and reentry can learn new skills, share information and gain insights.
This free half day symposium is for you if:
- You were sitting around the kitchen table with friends and decided you had some ideas about how things could be different and you took action to start a program, working group or agency and want to build your skills and connect with others in the field.
- You are like Fannie Lou Hammer - "Sick and tired of being sick and tired" and you want to change the level of public support and programs available in your community for those affected by parental incarceration and you need concrete strategies to advance your advocacy work.
- You have a lived experience of personal incarceration and/or incarceration of your spouse, children and/or family members and you want to share insights and lessons learned or want to hear how others are dealing with parental incarceration and reentry.
- You have been doing this work for 10+ years or you are just now entering the field.
- You conduct research in this area and you want your research to be informed by actual practice.
No matter where you are in the work, the Practitioners' Institute sponsored by Foreverfamily, Inc. will enhance your knowledge by providing:
- Skill building sessions where you will receive concrete tools and information you can use.
- Access to people who have been doing this work for more than 2 decades who can help with idea generation and problem solving.
- Opportunities to network and interact with people around the country who work on these issues.
There is no cost for this symposium. We want to build a learning community so come prepared to analyze new concepts, share innovative approaches and gain strength for continuing your work on the front lines!
The Practitioners' Institute was offered in conjunction with Community Voices Third Annual Freedom’s Voice Conference:
